Our small Squadron has been hit with a tragedy in the untimely death of Bridge Officer Lawrence Schutt. A chronically sore back was finally diagnosed as bone cancer in the spine – unfortunately too late for any treatment.
Lawrence, a real spark plug on the Bridge will be sorely missed as Port Captain for Pembroke and Petawawa. He took an enthusiastic interest in promoting recreational activities for the Squadron – keeping us plugged in to the relevant events in these two communities. Especially helpful at the annual Oiseau Rock Rendezvous, he organized the beach head and established our presence until the rest of the Squadron arrived. His Large houseboat “Knott Yacht” was always a focus for the next morning Mimosa Cocktail.
It is a double edged blow because his wife Jill, always active, had agreed to be our new membership officer for 2003-2004 and has requested to be relieved because, as she put it, her heart can’t be in it without Lawrence.
Our sincere condolences go out to wife Jill and family on his death on Wednesday, August 21st. He was a Bridge Officer who pulled a mighty oar for our Squadron and will be hard to replace.
A Donation in his memory was made to the CPS Foundation.
